I mentioned earlier that a parody of American Idol shouldn’t be that hard to do and I was right. Check out this great clip featuring Kelly Clarkson on Reba. It shows Kelly trying to learn to do the weather, then the panel of judges give their opinion.

Brock is Randy Jackson, Cheyenne is Paula Abdul and Van is Simon Cowell. Everyone does a great job and it’s a funny skit.

American Idol should be quite easy to make fun of. People do it every day and a movie paridoy of the TV show shouldn’t be that hard to do. However, it was horrible.

The plot was similar. A singing competition that paired interesting people against each other, a rude judge and it was the the #1 show on TV. The downside was that there were a bunch of sub-plots and a creepy love story. The singing competition was actually a very small part of the movie and the ending was weird and stupid.

If I were you, I’d avoid it at all costs. It’s not worth the rent or the time you take to watch it. Probably the best part of the move was the American Dreamz song and that isn’t saying much.

American Dreamz stars Hugh Grant, Dennis Quaid, Mandy Moore, Willem Dafoe, Chris Klein.

Ok, so it was a bit of a surprise to hear that Sanjaya Malakar was one of the top four guys. I liked Rudy Cardenas performance and didn’t see him going home so soon. Paul Kim, Amy Krebs and Nicole Tranquillo leave also. At this point, there are to many people to really care who gets the boot and who doesn’t. I’m not finding the talent that good or the show that addicting yet this year. Maybe there are still to many people.

And stopping by for a guest spot was Fantasia Barrino. I tuned out during that performance. I think she’s talented, but I’m not a fan. She did announce that she was going to be in a Broadway play though. It’s The Color Purple by Quincy Jones. We would have gotten a bit more info about it but Ryan Seacrest kind of cut Quincy off. Pretty bad too.

The highlight of the evening for me was hearing the ‘goodbye’ song. Last year it was Daniel Powter’s Bad Day and this year it’s none other than Chris Daughtry’s Home!!!! How cool is that? The song fits well and I hope they continue to use it all season long. Plus it’ll be great to see Chris’ guest appearance. You know it’ll happen sooner or later. Both songs by the way are less than a dollar each on iTunes. :)

What did you think of the show?

Is it to early to predict that a female will be the next American Idol? After tonight’s performances, it’s clear that the girls are outshining the boys by a long shot!

Stephanie Edwards kicked off the show on a high note and set the bar pretty high. The downside to Stephanie is she looks quite similar to Fantasia Barrino. It may be hard for people to see the real her when they keep thinking of Fantasia.

Two of my favorite girls also stole the show by sining their hearts out and brining down the house. Backup singer Melinda Doolittle has forever left the background singers and joined the stars. I found it interesting that last year she was thinking of being a backup singer for American Idol. Now she’s starring in it!

And then there was Lakisha Jones who Simon basically said was the next American Idol. Her performance was miles above anyone else and she impressed all three judges so much, they couldn’t think of anything bad to say. The only downside I saw was she looked a little freaky at times in her performance. She needs to work on stage presence a bit.

I think the thing that makes Melinda and Lakisha stand out is their lack of confidence. Gina Glocksen, who did quite good, may loose out on votes because she’s over confidante. There is to much of a good thing. Melinda and Lakisha seem more real and down to earth and I think that’s an excellent quality to have.

So far, after week one, the girls are kicking butt and Lakisha Jones is shining high above the rest.

If two hours of American Idol isn’t enough, now it’s on for five hours a week! Holy crap man. I do need a life you know. Anyway, the boys performed tonight and it was ok. Nothing spectacular though.

Blake Lewis was my favorite. The beat box boy showed us that he can really sing and I think he’s going to go a long ways. Phil Stacey was good too. Started off bad, really bad, but ended up fantastic! I didn’t think Chris Richardson did that great, but it was entertaining and the judges liked it. Go figure.

The big surprise for me was that the judges ripped Sanjaya Malakar apart. I’m not a big fan of him, but I though he did quite well. I guess I don’t know how to call the shots I guess.

The other shocker was when Chris Sligh and Simon were taking shots back and forth and we found out that some of Simon Cowell’s past talents include the hit album A Teletubbies Christmas. Now that’s an interesting fact I didn’t know.

So what’s in store for the gals? Well it’ll be tough to impress the judges that’s for sure.

YouTube comes through again and shows us Kelly Clarkson’s performance at the Daytona 500 with a brand new song called One Minute. The song is rumored to also be available on her upcoming album.

Keep in mind, this looks like it was shot from a cell phone or something so the quality is so-so.

I’m not sure if this s a rehearsal or not, but her sex appeal is lacking. Tomorrow we should have higher quality audio and video floating around the net. And hopfully soon we’ll be able to download it.

Also, does her hair color change per album?

Talk about cutting out the wanna bee’s from the can bee’s, Idol races through hundreds of constants and we are left with only 12 girls and 12 guys.

Talent wasn’t a huge factor in the Hollywood week, it was more about dealing with the pressure, memorizing songs with short notice and being able to do more than just a good first impression.

I don’t agree with all the cuts the judges make, but then again, who does. We don’t see it all and someone had to go.

Some of my early favorites include:

  • Blake Lewis
  • Chris Sligh
  • Lakisha Jones
  • Melinda Doolittle

Some that bug me include:

  • Sanjaya Malakar - He looks 12.
  • Nicole Tranquillo - I haven’t been overly impressed yet.
  • Gina Glocksen - I want to like her, but some of the comments she’s made during Hollywood week made her sound like a self centered person.

We’ll really get to see them shine, or choke, when in the up-coming weeks as it only gets harder from here. :)

Not only did Carrie Underwood win big at the Grammys last night taking home both the best female country vocal performance and best new artist, but she also performed Desperado from the Eagles and then sang with Rascal Flatts. How cool is that? It just goes to show you how American Idol talent is real and it’s not just some lame reality show.

I thought Elliott Yamin’s album would be out a lot earlier this year, but according to Amazon, it’s set to hit stores on March 20th. There isn’t a whole lot of information about the album out yet, however the cover art is kind of ugly. Elliott looked great on idol but his perm and blank expression on the album cover is disappointing.

The first single off the new album is “Movin’ On” and it should hit radio any day now. We have a preview of the single for your enjoyment thanks to YouTube.

I’m hoping that Elliott stays true to his Idol voice on the new album. If the preview is any indication, I think it’ll be a great compilation.

While listening to the radio the other day they played a new song by a newcomer to country music. The song was A Different World and the artist was Bucky Covington.

Bucky was a finalist in season 5 of American Idol and to be honest, I didn’t think he was that great. His voice seemed no where near the quality of most other contestant yet he made it to the top 12 and now has a record contract with Lyric Street Records.

A Different World is a song about how life was different back when we were kids. No seatbelt in cars, no video games and no unleaded paint. I think it’s a decent song, but nothing great. I also think Bucky’s voice is a bit more polished in the song. But then again, they can re-master anything in a sound studio.

You can listen to A Different World for free (and possibly download) here and at Bucky’s MySpace page.

The MySpace page also has American Friday Night, I’m Good and Empty Handed to listen to. Some of which might be decent songs.

If you can’t wait for more Bucky Covington, the entire album will be released April 17th 2007 so hold on tight.
